# Welcome to Migaloo

## What is Migaloo?

Migaloo is a permissionless and open-source Proof-Of-Stake layer one blockchain built using the Cosmos SDK stack and CometBFT (formally Tendermint) consensus. Migaloo was founded by the WhiteWhale team, who initially launched their arbitrage dApp on Terra Classic. Since USTs depeg in early 2022, the team pivoted to building an interchain DEX to provide more stable prices across the IBC ecosystem and subsequently launched the Migaloo Blockchain which would become 'the hub' of the WhiteWhale protocol while also providing further utility to the WHALE coin.

## What is WHALE?

WHALE is Migaloo Zone's native gas coin. WHALE is used to pay the transaction fees of the chain. WHALE is also the main asset used to secure the chain via staking to Validators who produce blocks and ensure the chain's liveliness.

## Striving for Innovation

The Migaloo Zone, its founders, developers and community members are proud of the innovation which takes place on the chain. Migaloo was the first Cosmos chain to introduce ReStaking by leveraging the [Alliance Module](https://docs.alliance.money/) and allowing the ReStaking of LUNA liquid staking tokens. Since this innovation took place in early 2023, the chain has gone on to evolve its staking mechanisms to allow for the staking and liquid staking ([WHALEx](/learn/staking/restaking-alliance#whalex)) of the WHALE/wBTC liquidity pool. Migaloo has also launched ReStake DAO, a DAO built to democratise how Migaloo inflation is spent and focuses on allowing the ReStaking of LP tokens to Migaloo Zone. ReStake DAO controls 7.5% of Migaloo's inflation.

To learn more about Migaloo's ReStaking capabilities please read: [Alliance](/learn/staking/restaking-alliance) & [ReStake DAO](/learn/staking/restake-dao)

As well as being an industry leader in the ReStaking space, Migaloo also runs the latest Cosmos tech, ensuring both developers and users have the best experience most secure experience when using the chain.

# Migaloo Zone Tech

Migaloo is a permission-less, open-source network for decentralized interoperable applications running the latest Cosmos technology.

## **ReStaking** (**First** [**Alliance**](https://docs.alliance.money/) **Chain):**

Migaloo was the first chain in the Cosmos to integrate the alliance module and enable the re-staking of assets. The Alliance Module allows chains to form economic Alliances. These alliances allow smaller chains to gain capital inflows from bigger chains and helps to diversify the staking rewards of smaller chains.\
The Alliance re-staking module also allows for ecosystem tokens to be staked to the chain, helping to bootstrap Migaloo dApps such as Ginkou (Money Market) and LP tokens from WhiteWhale increasing Liquidity.

## Home to the [WhiteWhale](https://app.whitewhale.money/migaloo/dashboard) Protocol:

WhiteWhale (WW) is an innovative interchain DEX which is Currently Live across various Cosmos chains. WW was the first DEX to launch on Osmosis (not including Osmosis itself) and paved the way forward in boosting Osmosis' potential to become a fully-fledged economic zone with multiple dApps powered by WW and the RIDE partners.

## Native Token Factory

The Token Factory allows you to create your own native denoms, as recognised by the Cosmos SDK Bank Module. This allows your protocol to issue its own token, without needing to support the CW20 standard. This sets a new and more secure way to build DeFi products

## [Skip MEV](https://skip.money/)

Skip enables sovereign blockchain protocols such as Migaloo Zone to supercharge their user experience, interoperability, and value capture with its vertically integrated product suite.

## IBC 7

An interchain bridge allowing safe transfer of assets across chains that have Inter Blockchain Communication (IBC) enabled. Migaloo Zone always strives to use the latest IBC tech to allow its users and products to access the full security that IBC allows.

## [SDK47](https://docs.cosmos.network/)

The [Cosmos SDK](https://github.com/cosmos/cosmos-sdk) is an open-source framework for building multi-asset public Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchains, like the Cosmos Hub, as well as permissioned Proof-of-Authority (PoA) blockchains. Blockchains built with the Cosmos SDK are generally referred to as **application-specific blockchains**.

## Packet Forwarding Middleware

The packet-forward-middleware module is an IBC middleware module built for Cosmos blockchains utilizing the IBC protocol allowing routing of incoming IBC packets from a source chain to a destination chain

## IBC Hooks

The IBC hooks module is an IBC middleware that enables ICS-20 token transfers to initiate contract calls. This functionality allows cross-chain contract calls that involve token movement. IBC hooks are useful for a variety of use cases, including cross-chain swaps, which are an extremely powerful primitive.

# Modules

### [Alliance Module](https://docs.alliance.money/)

Alliance is an [open-source Cosmos SDK module](https://github.com/terra-money/alliance) that leverages interchain staking to form economic alliances among blockchains. General information on the Alliance module can be found in the [Overview](https://docs.alliance.money/overview) and [How it works](https://docs.alliance.money/alliance) sections. Visit the [Integration guide](https://docs.alliance.money/guides/get-started) to learn how to add Alliance to your chain. For detailed information on Alliance, visit the [in-depth concepts section](https://docs.alliance.money/concepts/staking) or the [Technical specs](https://docs.alliance.money/tech/parameters).

### [Auth](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/auth/)

The auth module is responsible for specifying the base transaction and account types for an application since the SDK itself is agnostic to these particulars. It contains the middlewares, where all basic transaction validity checks (signatures, nonces, auxiliary fields) are performed, and exposes the account keeper, which allows other modules to read, write, and modify accounts.

### [Authz](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/authz/)

authz is an implementation of a Cosmos SDK module that allows granting arbitrary privileges from one account (the granter) to another account (the grantee). Authorizations must be granted for a particular Msg service method one by one using an implementation of the `Authorization` interface.

### [Bank](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/bank/)

The bank module is responsible for handling multi-asset coin transfers between accounts and tracking special-case pseudo-transfers which must work differently with particular kinds of accounts (notably delegating/undelegating for vesting accounts). It exposes several interfaces with varying capabilities for secure interaction with other modules which must alter user balances.\
In addition, the bank module tracks and provides query support for the total supply of all assets used in the application.

### [Capability](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/capability/)

Capability is an implementation of a Cosmos SDK module that allows for provisioning, tracking, and authenticating multi-owner capabilities at runtime.

### [Crisis](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/crisis/)

The crisis module halts the blockchain under the circumstance that a blockchain invariant is broken. Invariants can be registered with the application during the application initialization process.

### [Distribution](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/distribution/)

This *simple* distribution mechanism describes a functional way to passively distribute rewards between validators and delegators. Note that this mechanism does not distribute funds in as precisely as active reward distribution mechanisms and will therefore be upgraded in the future.

### [Evidence](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/evidence/)

Evidence is an implementation of a Cosmos SDK module that allows for the submission and handling of arbitrary evidence of misbehaviour such as equivocation and counterfactual signing.

### [Fee Burn](https://github.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-chain/tree/release/v4.1.x/x/feeburn)

A custom built Cosmos SDK module allowing for the burning of transaction fees. Fee burn percentage can be set anywhere between 0% and 100%

### [Fee grant](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/feegrant/)

This module allows accounts to grant fee allowances and to use fees from their accounts. Grantees can execute any transaction without the need to maintain sufficient fees.

### [Genutil](https://docs.cosmos.network/main/build/modules/genutil)

The `genutil` package contains a variety of genesis utility functionalities for usage within a blockchain application.

### [Gov](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/gov/)

The module enables Cosmos-SDK based blockchain to support an on-chain governance system. In this system, holders of the native staking token of the chain can vote on proposals on a 1 token 1 vote basis. Next is a list of features the module currently supports:

### IBC

A protocol for secure and reliable communication between heterogeneous blockchains built on the Cosmos SDK. IBC enables the transfer of tokens and data across multiple blockchains.

### IBC hooks

The wasm hook is an IBC middleware which is used to allow ICS-20 token transfers to initiate contract calls. This allows cross-chain contract calls, that involve token movement. This is useful for a variety of use cases. One of primary importance is cross-chain swaps, which is an extremely powerful primitive.

### ICA

Interchain Accounts is the Cosmos SDK implementation of the ICS-27 protocol, which enables cross-chain account management built upon IBC.

### ICQ

Interchain Queries (ICQ) are a feature that allows a blockchain to read data from another network, allowing developers to securely retrieve data from its storage by requesting information about the network or application state.

### [Mint](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/mint/)

The mint module is in charge of the creation of new WHALE through minting. At the beginning of every block, new WHALE is released by the Mint module and sent to the fee collector account to be distributed to stakers as rewards.\
\
Migaloo inflation is set at 4%

### [Params](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/params/)

Package params provide a globally available parameter store.

### Packet Forwarding Middleware (PFM)

The packet-forward-middleware is an IBC middleware module built for Cosmos blockchains utilizing the IBC protocol. A chain which incorporates the packet-forward-middleware is able to route incoming IBC packets from a source chain to a destination chain.

### [Slashing](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/slashing/)

The slashing module enables Cosmos SDK-based blockchains to disincentivize any attributable action by a protocol-recognized actor with value at stake by penalizing them ("slashing").

### [Staking](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/staking/)

The module enables Cosmos SDK-based blockchain to support an advanced Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system. In this system, holders of the native staking token of the chain can become validators and can delegate tokens to validators, ultimately determining the effective validator set for the system.

### [Token factory](https://docs.osmosis.zone/osmosis-core/modules/tokenfactory/)

The tokenfactory module allows any account to create a new token with the name `factory/{creator address}/{subdenom}`. Because tokens are namespaced by creator address, this allows token minting to be permissionless, due to not needing to resolve name collisions. A single account can create multiple denoms, by providing a unique subdenom for each created denom. Once a denom is created, the original creator is given "admin" privileges over the asset.

### Transfer

Transfer is the Cosmos SDK implementation of the [ICS-20](https://github.com/cosmos/ibc/tree/master/spec/app/ics-020-fungible-token-transfer) protocol, which enables cross-chain fungible token transfers.

### [Upgrade](https://docs.cosmos.network/v0.46/modules/upgrade/)

Upgrade is an implementation of a Cosmos SDK module that facilitates smoothly upgrading a live Cosmos chain to a new (breaking) software version.

### Wasm

The Wasm module implements the execution environment for WebAssembly smart contracts, powered by [CosmWasm](https://cosmwasm.com/).\\

# Chain Fees

## What is a 'transaction fee'?

In the Cosmos SDK blockchain ecosystem, a transaction fee refers to the cost incurred by users when executing transactions on the network. These fees are typically paid in the native cryptocurrency of the blockchain, which in the case of the Migaloo Zone, is WHALE.

## Why do transaction fees exist?

Transaction fees serve several purposes:

1. **Network Security**: Transaction fees help prevent spam and denial-of-service attacks by making it costly for attackers to flood the network with transactions.
2. **Economic Incentives**: Fees incentivise validators to include transactions in blocks by rewarding them and their stakers with the fees collected. This ensures that the network remains secure and operational.
3. **Resource Allocation**: Transaction fees can be adjusted dynamically to ensure that network resources are allocated efficiently. During periods of high demand, fees may increase to prioritise transactions, while they may decrease during periods of low activity.

Every block, gas fees are sent to the reward pool and dispersed to validators who distribute them to delegators in the form of staking rewards.

## How are fees Calculated?

Each validator has the ability to set their own minimum gas fee, although validators typically agree to a specific minimum to which they all adhere. Transaction fees on Migaloo are typically low, although they can vary slightly depending on the transaction you are trying to complete.

## Migaloo Burn Fee

The launch of Migaloo v4 introduced a burn mechanism to the chain. The burn mechanism has the ability to burn the chain transaction fees. The amount of the transaction fee that is burned can be voted on and adjusted via a governance proposal. The burn amount can be set anywhere between 0% (no WHALE from the transaction is burned) and 100% (all WHALE from the transaction is burned.

At the moment 100% of Migaloo Zones transaction fees are burned. Community tax is subtracted before the WHALE is burned, ensuring WHALE consistently flows to the Community Pool

## Community Tax

Migaloo Zone has a "Community Tax". This is a tax on the revenue of the chain. A 10% tax is applied and sent to the community pool for Validators and Stakers to use. As Migaloo allows Staking of the WHALE/wBTC LP the community pool is constantly being filled Protocol owned Liquidity (PoL)

# Staking

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Vanilla Staking</td><td>Learn what staking is all about and how it helps to secure the chain</td><td><a href="/learn/staking/vanilla-staking">Vanilla Staking</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Alliance Staking</strong></td><td>Read about Migaloo's groundbreaking ReStake technology and building PoL</td><td><a href="/learn/staking/restaking-alliance">Alliance</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Liquid Staking</strong></td><td>Understand the power of liquid staking and the opportunities it can unlock</td><td><a href="/learn/staking/liquid-staking">Liquid Staking</a></td></tr><tr><td>ReStake DAO</td><td>Democratising Migaloo inflation and building communities by incentavising participation</td><td><a href="/learn/staking/restake-dao">ReStake DAO</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Validators</strong></td><td>Choose a validator that's right for you and learn about what it means to secure Migaloo Zone</td><td><a href="/learn/staking/validators">Validators</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

# Vanilla Staking

'Vanilla' Staking refers to the act of delegating your WHALE coins to a validator to secure the chain and participate in governance.

## Staking

The Migaloo Zone consists of 45 maximum active [Validators](/learn/staking/validators) who work to participate in consensus, validate transactions and produce the chains 'blocks'. Validators are assigned a rank based on the number of tokens delegated to them, the higher a validator's rank the more WHALE has been delegated to them and thus the more voting power they have as 1 WHALE = 1 vote.

## Delegating

Migaloo Zone is a Delegated Proof of Stake chain. Users delegate (aka Stake or Bond) their Coins to a validator. Delegating to a validator helps to secure the chain and allows the user's chosen validator to vote on governance proposals on the stakers behalf. Stakers can override their validator's decision should they disagree by manually voting themselves. Once a user has staked to a validator in the active set they start earning WHALE rewards from the chain's inflation and transaction fees. On top of the WHALE rewards users also earn WHALE/wBTC LP tokens as Migaloo also allows users to stake this LP. When users stake the WHALE/wBTC LP a take rate is in place which distributes the LP to Vinilla WHALE stakers, Validators and the Community pool. Migaloo stakers also earn other coins such as wBTC and OSMO LSTs. To learn more about this please read [Alliance](/learn/staking/restaking-alliance)

## Undelegating and Redelegating

Users are able to undelegate their staked coins at any time. Once a user has confirmed their undelegation transaction their coins enter into the "undelegation period". This period lasts 21 days (typical for a Cosmos Chain), after the 21-day period the user's coins will appear back in their wallet.

Once a user has initiated the undelegation process it can not be cancelled. Users must wait the full 21-day period for their coins to become liquid again. During undelegations, users do not receive any staking rewards nor are the tokens tradable.

Redelegating instantly stakes a user's WHALE to a different validator than the one they are currently delegated to. Once a user has redelegated they are unable to make a further redelegation of those coins until a 21-day period has elapsed.

## Staking Rewards

Staking on Migaloo is incentivised by rewarding stakers and validators with WHALE inflation (4%) and a portion of the chain's transaction fees. These rewards are distributed to stakers and validators at the end of each block (5.7 seconds). These rewards are distributed to delegators based on the amount of coins staked. Validator's rewards come from the commission they charge in order to run their services.

## Slashing

Slashing is an event, which results in a loss of stake percentage when a validator misbehaves. It is a financial incentive to act properly and also a measure to prevent a 'nothing at stake' problem. When a validator fails to sign too many pre-commits or causes a double-sign, slashing can happen. When a validator gets slashed, their delegators’ WHALE will be slashed as well.

Slashing can hurt delegators’ shares, so delegators must be aware of their validators’ past records such as downtime to pick the safest and most secure validator.

# Liquid Staking

Liquid staking is another area in which Migaloo Zone excels. Migaloo and WHALE tokenomics unlock the true power of Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs).

### What is Liquid Staking?

Liquid staking is a solution for locking up a user's tokens and contributing to the security of proof of stake blockchains. With liquid staking, users can stake on a PoS network without compromising their ability to transfer ownership of their staked tokens by generating a transferable liquid staking token (LST), which demonstrates ownership of staked tokens and any network rewards accrued to those tokens.

With traditional methods of staking, users coins are subject to bonding and unbonding period (21-days), liquid staking provides stakers with increased liquidity and capital efficiency. Token holders stake their tokens and receive a receipt token as evidence of their ownership of their staked token. The receipt token can be transferred, stored, traded, and utilized in DeFi or supported dapps.\
[<br>](https://docs.whitewhale.money/white-whale/liquidity-hub/whale-lair)**Learn more about the DEX bonding Mechanism:**

{% embed url="<https://docs.whitewhale.money/white-whale/liquidity-hub/whale-lair>" %}

## WHALEx

WHALEx is an innovative liquid staking solution designed by leveraging the Alliance SDK module. WHALEx is a liquid staked version of WHALE/wBTC LP tokens staked to Migaloo. By liquid staking WHALE/wBTC LP tokens through WHALEx, users maximize their staking rewards, and contribute to protocol-owned liquidity (PoL) on Migaloo.

### How WHALEx Works

The Alliance module enables users to stake WHALE/wBTC LP tokens to the Migaloo blockchain, earning a portion of Migaloo’s inflation as staking rewards. However, standard LP staking involves a take rate — a percentage of staked LP tokens distributed to WHALE stakers, the community pool, and validators.

By liquid staking with WHALEx, users retain their LP position through while their staking rewards are automatically used to generate more LP tokens, which are then staked again. This compounding mechanism enhances liquidity and increases TVL without requiring users to manage their staking positions manually.

## Utility

Our liquid staking tokens are unique with the fact they have utility across various Cosmos chains. WHALE LSTs can be bonded to the WhiteWhale DEX in order to earn a portion of WHALE buybacks. The buybacks are powered by the volume of the DEX on that particular chain. Higher volume, higher rewards.\
Users aer also incentivised to bond for longer periods of time. When users bond they are able to build up a "multiplier" on there rewards, meaning loyal bonders earn a greater and greater percentage of the buybacks as long as they don't unbond there WHALE LSTs.\\

### BackBone Labs

BackBone Labs are pioneers in the NFTFi space, enabling yield-bearing NFTs to thrive across the Cosmos by using their LSTs across various chains to bootstrap NFT yield and LST liquidity.

{% embed url="<https://app.backbonelabs.io/gravedigger/migaloo-1>" %}

### Eris Protocol

Eris Protocol are setting an industry standard with their high yield LSTs and a host of DeFi yield automation, simplifying DeFi and boosting yield for all. Eris Protocols arbWHALE vaults ensure that WHALE LSTs stay pegged to there true price by leveraging arbitrage bots.

# Alliance

Migaloo was the first chain in Cosmos to enable the ReStaking of assets by leveraging the Alliance Module

Migaloo Zone is leading the way with its unique and innovative use of ReStaking made possible by the Cosmos SDK "[Alliance Module](https://docs.alliance.money/)". Migaloo has adapted and evolved the Alliance Module to suit its own unique needs. Initially, the Alliance module was designed for two sovereign blockchains to bootstrap each other's staking rewards for bigger chains to support smaller chains by supplementing the smaller chains staking rewards with more well-established, more liquid and less volatile assets and in reverse the bigger chain can diversify its staking rewards and reward its stakers with a wider variety of assets.\
Migaloo has leveraged the Alliance module to allow not only the ReStaking of other L1 coins but also Ecosystem tokens, and LP Tokens and has also democratised the process of listing new Tokens and how much inflation they receive by launching "[ReStake DAO](/learn/staking/restake-dao)"

## What is Alliance?

Migaloo Alliance assets are decided by governance proposals. Any IBC assets can be listed via this process assuming the the voters (Validators and Stakers) agree to the proposal. The proposals to list an Alliance asset should provide information such as the Token Denom, "Take Rate" and "Reward Rate". See examples: [#1](https://dashboard.station.money/proposal/migaloo-1/23), [#2](https://dashboard.station.money/proposal/migaloo-1/28), [#3](https://dashboard.station.money/proposal/phoenix-1/4802).

## PoL

Liquidity is a key part of any DeFi ecosystem, that's why Migaloo Zone has chosen to adopt the unique strategy of allowing WHALE / wBTC liquidity pool tokens (LPs) to be staked to the chain and earn a portion of Migaloo's staking rewards. This tactic bolsters the liquidity of the chain's flagship application, WhiteWhale (WW).

## WHALEx

WHALEx is a liquid staking derivative of staked WHALE/wBTC LP tokens. This token auto-compounds allowing users to maximise reward efficiency and create a positive feedback loop for WHALE liquidity.

### Take Rate

Stakers of WHALE/wBTC are subject to a take rate of 50%. The take rate is an annualized "tax" applied to a particular Alliance assets, in the case WHALE/wBTC LP tokens. The take rate is redistributed to all stakers meaning $WHALE stakers, as well as validators also earn the LP token. On top of this the community pool also earns WHALE/wBTC LP tokens, gradually building protocol owned liquidity.

# ReStake DAO

ReStake DAO will combine the elements of restaking and liquidity wars for the very first time. It will also further establish and codify Migaloo as one of the main pioneers of restaking in the Cosmos.

<figure><img src="https://283914136-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2FO57BqrR075yBZrhzCA4c%2Fuploads%2Fgit-blob-2bfba2fd0c95ec3c2bf7a4f9f2e82da82cf38200%2Fimage%20(7).png?alt=media" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### **What is Restake DAO?** <a href="#id-3b55" id="id-3b55"></a>

Restake DAO decentralizes Migaloo’s fiscal policy by putting control of the ReStake contract in the hands of $RSTK holders. It allows $RSTK stakers to distribute a fraction of Migaloo’s staking emissions to any asset the DAO whitelists. The voting power is directly proportional to the amount staked. This system creates positive competition between DAOs, protocols, teams, and wealthy individuals trying to benefit from Migaloo’s emissions. Although ReStake DAO uses the Cosmos SDK Module "Alliance" it leveraes it in an extremely unique way.

### **Purpose of Restake DAO** <a href="#id-8741" id="id-8741"></a>

The direction of the 7.5% incentive flows will be decided by $RSTK stakers of the Restake DAO. All interested parties, such as token projects, community DAOs, etc… will have a natural interest in directing liquidity incentives towards their purposes, for example, the ASH DAO might want to provide perpetual incentives to their LP pairs in order to make their ASH token more liquid or SAIL DAO wants to attract external projects through incentives flows directed by Restake DAO etc.

The fight for control over incentive flows will induce natural demand for the $RSTK token and ensure the prosperity of the Restake DAO. It is the very same dynamic as 've' tokenomics used for liquidity wars. In the first iteration of ReStake DAO, a proposer will need to pass a gov prop which assigns each asset’s share of the yield, however, in future iterations of ReStake DAO, a gauge mechanism will control the distribution of the yield in real-time.

### How does it work?

Users are able to buy the $RSTK token and stake the token to the ReStake DAO via [DAO DAO](https://daodao.zone/dao/migaloo1pxuqr7je9h7slchdsgz5ufc3kklrevyfnxmq0dkjru5k6e6mdm2sw23hfz/home). Once a user has voting power they can now use their voting power to vote for the assets that they want to receive Migaloo inflation via [Eris Protocol](https://next.erisprotocol.com/migaloo/restake-gauges). Anyone can buy ReStake, whitelist a token via governance and then direct yield towards their toke.

Once a user has cast there vote the reward rates of the Whitelisted assets is updated in real time and the inflation going towards each asset is shifted. Want more inflation for your assets? Buy some $RSTK and stake it!

# Gauge System

## What is a Gauge Voting System?

A gauge voting mechanism is a decentralized system used for allocating resources or rewards within a blockchain ecosystem; 7.5% of Migaloo Zone inflation in the case of ReStake DAO. It allows $RSTK stakers to influence inflation rewards based on the number of tokens they hold and their preferences.

In short $RSTK stakers are able to vote for the assets they want to receive Migaloo Zone inflation. The more votes an asset has the more of Migaloo's inflation it receives.

## What assets can be listed and how can they be listed?

{% hint style="success" %}
To get assets added to the frontend ASAP here is a how-to: <https://github.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/alliance-staking?tab=readme-ov-file#how-to-add-your-token-for-restaking>
{% endhint %}

Any token or coin (including LP tokens) can be listed on $RSTK DAO. In order for an asset to be listed to ReStake DAO and start receiving Migaloo Zone inflation a governance proposal has to pass (click [here](https://daodao.zone/dao/migaloo1pxuqr7je9h7slchdsgz5ufc3kklrevyfnxmq0dkjru5k6e6mdm2sw23hfz/proposals/A21) to see an example of a WhiteListing prop).

{% hint style="success" %}
When Whitelisting an asset add it to the [Cosmos Chain Registry](https://github.com/cosmos/chain-registry/blob/master/migaloo/assetlist.json) (Migaloo).
{% endhint %}

## How do I vote?

To take part in gauge voting first ensure you have $RSTK staked to the [DAO](https://daodao.zone/dao/migaloo1pxuqr7je9h7slchdsgz5ufc3kklrevyfnxmq0dkjru5k6e6mdm2sw23hfz/home). Once you have staked $RSTK and have voting power you can use [Eris Protocol's](https://www.erisprotocol.com/migaloo/restake-gauges) gauge voting page to vote for the assets you want to direct Migaloo's inflation towards

## Minimum Votes required

In order to receive Migaloo inflation assets must maintain a minimum voting power of 1%. If an asset's votes fall below 1% it receives zero Migaloo inflation and is at risk of being delisted as a whitelisted asset.

## How do I stake WhiteListed Assets?

Assets are stakable via the [Migaloo Zone](https://app.migaloo.zone/) front end under the "Retaking" tab.

{% hint style="success" %}
In order for Migaloo Zone's front end to calculate the assets staking APR it must have a liquidity pool on WhiteWhale DEX or a Coin Gecko ID
{% endhint %}

# Validators

## What is a Validator?

The role of validators is to run a full node and participate in consensus by broadcasting votes that contain cryptographic signatures signed by the validator's private key. Validators commit new blocks in the blockchain and receive revenue from inflation and transaction fees in exchange for their work securing the chain and processing transactions. Validators must also participate in governance by voting on proposals. Validators are weighted according to their total stake.

## What is a full node?[](https://hub.cosmos.network/validators/validator-faq#what-is-a-full-node) <a href="#what-is-a-full-node" id="what-is-a-full-node"></a>

A full node is a server running a chain's *binary* (its software) that fully validates transactions and blocks of a blockchain and keeps a full record of all historical activity. A full node is distinct from a pruned node that processes only block headers and a small subset of transactions. Running a full node requires more resources than a pruned node. Validators can decide to run either a full node or a pruned node, but they need to make sure they retain enough blocks to be able to validate new blocks.\
It is possible and encouraged for users to run full nodes even if they do not plan to be validators.

## Validator Analytics

Validators can be analysed based on various performance metrics such as uptime, server location, voting habits and more. Here are some useful tools to analyse validators.

# Choose a Validator

## How to choose a validator

Delegators are free to choose validators according to their own subjective criteria. Selection criteria includes:

* **Amount of validator-bonded WHALE:** Number of WHALE a validator has delegated to themselves. A validator with a higher amount of self-delegated WHALE indicates that the validator is sharing the risk and consequences for their actions.
* **Amount of delegated WHALE:** Total number of WHALE delegated to a validator. A high voting power shows that the community trusts this validator. Larger validators also decrease the decentralization of the network, so delegators are suggested to consider delegating to smaller validators to increase decentralisation.
* **Commission rate:** Commission applied on revenue by validators before the revenue is distributed to their delegators.
* **Track record:** Delegators can review the track record of the validators they plan to delegate to. This track record includes past votes on proposals and historical average uptime.
* **Community contributions:** Another (more subjective) criteria is the work that validators have contributed to the community, such as educational content, participation in the community channels, contributions to open-source software, etc.

## What is Validator Commission?

Revenue received by a validator's pool is split between the validator and their delegators. The validator can apply a commission on the part of the revenue that goes to their delegators. This commission is set as a percentage. Each validator is free to set their initial commission, maximum daily commission change rate, and maximum commission. The commission rate itself can be changed after the validator is created.

## How to prevent the concentration of stake in the hands of a few top validators?[](https://hub.cosmos.network/validators/validator-faq#how-to-prevent-concentration-of-stake-in-the-hands-of-a-few-top-validators) <a href="#how-to-prevent-concentration-of-stake-in-the-hands-of-a-few-top-validators" id="how-to-prevent-concentration-of-stake-in-the-hands-of-a-few-top-validators"></a>

The community is expected to behave in a smart and self-preserving way. When a mining pool in Bitcoin gets too much mining power the community usually stops contributing to that pool. Migaloo Zone relies on the same effect. Additionally, when delegators switch to another validator, they are not subject to the unbonding period, which removes any barrier to quickly redelegating tokens in service of improving decentralisation.

# Deeper Concepts

### What are the responsibilities of a validator?

Validators have two main responsibilities:

* **Be able to constantly run a correct version of the software:** Validators must ensure that their servers are always online and their private keys are not compromised.
* **Actively participate in governance:** Validators are required to vote on proposals.

Additionally, validators are expected to be active members of the community. Validators must always be up-to-date with the current state of the ecosystem so that they can easily adapt to any change.

### What does 'participate in governance' entail? <a href="#what-does-participate-in-governance-entail" id="what-does-participate-in-governance-entail"></a>

Validators and delegators on Migaloo Zone can vote on proposals to change operational parameters (such as the block gas limit), coordinate upgrades, or make a decision on any given matter.

Validators play a special role in the governance system. As pillars of the system, validators are required to vote on behalf of their delegators. It is especially important since delegators who do not vote inherit the vote of their validator, for this reason, delegators are encouraged to choose a validator that aligns with their own views.

### How does a Validator enter the 'Active Set'?

Migaloo Zone has a max validator set of 45. To become an active validator on Migaloo a validator must receive more delegations than the bottom validator. This is not a set number in terms of WHALE or dollar amount and can vary. To enter the active set anyone can delegate to the validator, including the Validator themselves.

### Can a validator run away with their delegators' WHALE? <a href="#can-a-validator-run-away-with-their-delegators-atom" id="can-a-validator-run-away-with-their-delegators-atom"></a>

By delegating to a validator, a user delegates voting power. The more voting power a validator have, the more weight they have in the consensus and governance processes. This does not mean that the validator has custody of their delegators' WHALE. **A validator cannot run away with its delegator's funds**.

Even though delegated funds cannot be stolen by their validators, delegators' tokens can still be slashed by a small percentage if their validator suffers a [slashing event](#what-are-the-slashing-conditions), which is why we encourage due diligence when [selecting a validator](/learn/staking/validators/choose-a-validator).

### How often is a validator chosen to propose the next block? Does frequency increase with the quantity of bonded WHALE? <a href="#how-often-is-a-validator-chosen-to-propose-the-next-block-does-frequency-increase-with-the-quantity" id="how-often-is-a-validator-chosen-to-propose-the-next-block-does-frequency-increase-with-the-quantity"></a>

The validator that is selected to propose the next block is called the proposer. Each proposer is selected deterministically. The frequency of being chosen is proportional to the voting power (i.e. amount of bonded WHALE) of the validator.

### What is the incentive to run a validator?[](https://hub.cosmos.network/validators/validator-faq#what-is-the-incentive-to-run-a-validator) <a href="#what-is-the-incentive-to-run-a-validator" id="what-is-the-incentive-to-run-a-validator"></a>

Validators earn proportionally more revenue than their delegators because of the commission they take on the staking rewards from their delegators.

Validators also play a major role in governance. If a delegator does not vote, they inherit the vote from their validator. This voting inheritance gives validators a major responsibility in the ecosystem.

### What are the slashing conditions?[](https://hub.cosmos.network/validators/validator-faq#what-are-the-slashing-conditions) <a href="#what-are-the-slashing-conditions" id="what-are-the-slashing-conditions"></a>

If a validator misbehaves, their delegated stake is partially slashed. Two faults can result in slashing of funds for a validator and their delegators:

* **Double signing:** If someone reports on chain A that a validator signed two blocks at the same height on chain A and chain B, and if chain A and chain B share a common ancestor, then this validator gets slashed by 5% on chain A.
* **Downtime:** If a validator misses more than `95%` of the last `10,000` blocks (roughly \~15.5 hours), they are slashed by 0.01%.

# Governance

## Decentralised Governance

Migaloo is a decentralised Cosmos Layer One blockchain. Anyone can submit a governance proposal that can then be voted on by Validators and stakers. Blockchain governance is a vital part of Migaloo and most Cosmos chains. Governance allows the direction of the chain to be decided democratically and gives those with the most at stake to have a larger impact on the outcome of the vote.

## Making a Proposal

Before a governance proposal is put on the chain for voting it is usually to hold discussions on the proposal beforehand in order to gain feedback, and insight and gauge the general sentiment for the proposal.\
Proposals can be posted and discussed on the Migaloo Community Forum hosted on [Space Hall](https://spacehall.app/community/migaloo). Alternatively, there is a governance forum within the Migaloo discord.

## Types of Proposal

The most common proposal types include:

* `Text Proposal` - To handle other issues like large directional changes or any decision requiring manual implementation.
* `Software Upgrade` - This can upgrade the core Carbon node at a specific block height.
* `Parameter Change Proposal` - To change the parameters defined in each module.
* `Community Pool Spend Proposal` - To spend funds in the community pool.
* `Create Alliance Proposal` - Whitelists an asset to be added to the Alliance Module for ReStaking

## Voting Options

All WHALE stakers are eligible to vote on proposals as long as they staked their WHALE before the proposal was submitted on-chain. Should a user not participate in the vote, they will automatically inherit their validator's choice (assuming their chosen validator/s has voted). If a staker does not vote on a governance prop there is no penalty, user do not forgo any rewards should they fail to partake in governance.

**Votes:**

* `Yes` - In favour of the proposition.
* `No` - Against the proposition.
* `Abstain` - Refuse to cast a vote but still participate towards quorum.
* `No with Veto` - Against the proposition and the deposit should not be returned.

# Bridge Assets

{% hint style="danger" %}
When bridging IBC assets must ALWAYS route through their home chain. For example bridging WHALE from Osmosis to Terra would Require first IBCing WHALE to Migaloo first, then IBC to Terra. Bridges such as TFM and IBC FUN *should* automatically route correctly for you, but manual IBC sends using wallets will need routing manually.

# FAQs

Frequently asked questions about Migaloo, Cosmos and Crypto.

## General

### How do IBC an asset?

[Bridge Assets](/learn/tutorials/bridge-assets)

### What is a smart contract?

A smart contract is a digital program on the blockchain that automatically executes agreed-upon actions without needing intermediaries.

### What is a "seed phrase"?

A seed phrase (aka mnemonic) is a series of words that serves as a backup for your cryptocurrency wallet. It's like a master key to access and restore your wallet if you lose access to it. You're usually given these words when you first set up your wallet. By keeping your seed phrase safe and private, you can recover your wallet and funds even if you lose your device or it gets damaged. It is vital not to share your seed phrase with anyone. Doing so will lead to a loss of assets.

### Is it safe to share my wallet address or transaction hash?

Yes, you can share your Wallet address (public key) and a transaction hash. This information can be viewed by anyone using a block explorer. Sharing this information however will lower your amount of privacy as people will know which wallet you own and be able to view all of your transaction and assets.

### I made a transaction by accident. Can I reverse it?

No, blockchain are immutable and final. Any transaction made on a blockchain can not be changed, undone or reversed. If you send assets to an incorrect wallet address or a scammer gains control of your wallet and steals your funds it is unlikely you will be able to retrieve them.

### What is a DEX

A Decentralised Exchange (DEX) is a market place that allows users to buy and sell assets. In order to buy and sell assets the DEX you are using must have liquidity available. Liquidity can be provided by anyone by depositing assets into a Liquidity Pool.

### What is a liquidity pool?

A liquidity pool is a collection of funds locked in a smart contract on a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform. It facilitates trading by providing liquidity (or availability) of a particular cryptocurrency pair.

### What is a Community Pool?

A community pool is a reserve of tokens or funds that the community can decide how to use. These funds are often allocated for various purposes like supporting development, marketing, or other community-driven initiatives.

## Migaloo

### Is 'Staking' the same as 'bonding'?

Yes. The terms staking and bonding (to a validator) are generally used interchangeably. However, WhiteWhale (WW) DEX also offers 'Satellite Bonding'. This differs from staking as users are 'bonding' their LST WHALE to a WW satellite market in order to earn rewards from that satellite's trading volume.

### Does the burn fee affect my transaction cost?

No, the introduction of fee burning doesn't affect the total amount you pay for a transaction. Just a portion of the fees you pay get burned which will lower the supply of WHALE. To read more about Migaloo Fees click [here](/learn/migaloo-v4/chain-fees).

### What's the difference between Migaloo and WhiteWhale?

Migaloo Zone is a decentralised permissionless Layer One blockchain, WhiteWhale (WW) is a multichain Decentralised Exchange. Migaloo and WW both have the same founding team.

### What Validator should I stake with?

# RIDE Program

Unlocking the Power of the Interchain.

<figure><img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/1*rhpyb_XP--AxbNxP-7ipzw.png" alt="" height="368" width="700"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## **Overview**

Operating on a single blockchain exposes projects to risks and limitations. If the blockchain encounters issues, so does your application. If the blockchain’s ecosystem loses momentum, your app follows suit. To create a more resilient system, having a presence on multiple chains within the Interchain is crucial. White Whale, the industry leader with its live Interchain Liquidity Protocol on five Cosmos chains, introduces the RIDE program to help projects ambitiously scale with us and unlock their full potential.\
The White Whale team is the creator of the Migaloo blockchain, a permissionless CosmWasm blockchain with the latest technology in the Cosmos ecosystem. WHALE, the native token of the Migaloo chain, is the cornerstone of the whole ecosystem, spearheaded by its flagship application, the White Whale Interchain Liquidity Protocol. Migaloo made a groundbreaking accomplishment as the first-ever blockchain to implement cross-chain staking through Alliance.

## **Why Choose the RIDE Program?**

Joining the White Whale RIDE Program offers numerous benefits, allowing teams to seamlessly scale and diversify their operations and expand to multiple chains. Participants can:

1. Launch alongside White Whale’s satellite markets on all current and future smart contract platforms, ensuring a solid start in new markets.
2. Gain instant access to the extensive White Whale and Migaloo communities, connecting with a vast network of like-minded innovators and enthusiasts.
3. Tap into liquidity, exposing their token and utility to diverse blockchain ecosystems and increasing the growth potential.
4. Enjoy premium access to vertical integrations in partner projects, which can help expand their reach and capabilities.
5. Leverage the knowledge and network of a veteran team for guidance on technical integrations, public relations, tokenomics, and scaling strategies, providing a solid foundation for success.
6. Potentially use Migaloo Alliance to bootstrap liquidity and activity, provided it benefits WHALE token holders, ensuring continued support and value for the community.

## **Commit to a Thriving Ecosystem**

To join the White Whale RIDE Program, projects must commit to supporting the Migaloo ecosystem. We understand that every project and community is unique. Hence, no “one-size-fits-all” solution exists, and custom-tailored agreements are essential for each participant. However, as an example, projects could consider the following:

* Airdropping to WHALE stakers on Migaloo, directly rewarding loyal supporters.
* Allocating percentages of their revenue to buyback WHALE tokens, either burning them or distributing them to WHALE stakers or liquid staked WHALE bonders, further enhancing the token’s value.
* Bootstrapping liquidity through (perpetual) incentives or protocol-owned-liquidity, creating a sustainable liquidity model.
* Designating Migaloo as their central hub, i.e., the home of their Token and Decentralized Autonomous Organization, reinforcing the importance of Migaloo as a vital component in the Cosmos ecosystem.

## **Embrace the Future of Blockchain**

The White Whale RIDE Program empowers projects to expand their ambitions and embrace the Interchain, all while backed by the support of the White Whale team, its partners, and the community. Early adoption of a multi-chain approach provides a competitive advantage in a rapidly evolving industry, positioning projects at the forefront of innovation. By participating in the RIDE Program, projects can unlock new opportunities and ensure a more secure and interconnected future in the blockchain space.

# SAIL Program

Focus on what makes you unique, and let us handle the rest.

## Overview <a href="#id-5cae" id="id-5cae"></a>

Blockchain communities seek strategies to escalate their growth in an increasingly multi-chain world while ensuring sustainability and resilience. Inspired by the success of the RIDE Program, a new initiative called the White Whale SAIL Program is here to bridge the gap for blockchain ecosystems. The essence of the SAIL Program is to provide ecosystems with access to essential applications, communities, and liquidity to jumpstart their hyper-growth.

<figure><img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/0*7b8s7WuTuoCeU-MC" alt="" height="368" width="700"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## Existing Challenges <a href="#e845" id="e845"></a>

New blockchain ecosystems often face several challenges, including creating a solid community, ensuring liquidity, and offering essential DeFi and NFT applications. Building and maintaining all these elements in-house can be resource-intensive and hinder competitive edge as the landscape evolves swiftly. Furthermore, attracting or contracting external teams to build these applications takes time and does not guarantee timely delivery or success. The SAIL Program, built on the foundation of the White Whale RIDE Program, offers blockchain communities a robust support system.

## Why Choose the SAIL Program? <a href="#id-3aca" id="id-3aca"></a>

The SAIL Program offers a windfall of opportunities to unlock the full potential of blockchain ecosystems. Here’s how the SAIL Program propels your blockchain to the next level:

1. **Access the RIDE Group**: Gain priority access to RIDE participants deploying their products on your chain.
2. **White Whale**: Its Migaloo blockchain is permissionless and the first to utilize alliances for cross-chain staking. Already live on five mainnets — Injective, Terra, Juno, Comdex, and Chihuahua, the White Whale Protocol includes a DEX, flash loans, and arbitrage/liquidation systems.
3. **Backbone Lab**s: Owns the leading NFT marketplace on Terra and the number one Skeleton Punks collection. It also has a P2P trading platform for NFTs and a Liquid-staking protocol live on four chains.
4. **Eris Protocol**: Offers liquid staking on seven chains and supports various DeFi automation strategies.
5. **Raccoon**: Has the leading NFT marketplace on Chihuahua and games and gambling apps on three chains.
6. **Swift Deployments**: Forget empty promises and the risk of failed or delayed deployments. The RIDE group can deploy its entire product suite within weeks, giving your blockchain a competitive advantage by rapidly expanding its capabilities.
7. **Community Expansion**: Attract a vast and diverse community of like-minded users, investors, innovators, and projects from all corners of the blockchain space.
8. **Liquidity and Activity**: Facilitate deeper on-chain liquidity and heightened activity within your blockchain ecosystem by offering attractive applications.
9. **Streamlined Token Listing**: Elevate your token’s visibility and accessibility by capitalizing on the opportunity to list it on any of White Whale’s satellite markets and potentially on Migaloo as an Alliance asset.
10. **Cross-Chain support**: The RIDE Group’s commitment continues beyond any single blockchain. We will utilize our entire cross-chain application and professional network to bring utility and success to your ecosystem.

<figure><img src="https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1400/0*IJFxRWbDCClhkjaK" alt="" height="375" width="700"><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

## How to Join the SAIL Program? <a href="#id-1ffc" id="id-1ffc"></a>

Joining the SAIL Program is a commitment to integrating the strengths of the RIDE Group within your blockchain ecosystem. Understanding the uniqueness of each blockchain, SAIL emphasizes the importance of custom-tailored agreements. Steps to embark on this journey could include:

* **Grant**: Facilitate the RIDE group’s development by providing a grant, creating financial alignment, and ensuring ongoing support for the ecosystem’s success.
* **Community-Owned Liquidity**: Contribute community-owned liquidity for liquid staking tokens of Backbone Labs and Eris Protocol on the White Whale DEX, kickstarting the newly built economy.
* **Liquidity Incentives**: Provide incentives on the White Whale DEX, drawing liquidity to strategic on-chain pools.
* **Joint Marketing Efforts**: Engage in collaborative marketing endeavors to magnify visibility and outreach.
* **RIDE Group Token Utility**: Fortify the RIDE Group in your ecosystem by providing token utility, such as listing the WHALE token on your blockchain’s native lending market.

For the tutorial, it is assumed that you are using an Ubuntu LTS release.

If you have chosen a different operating system, you will need to modify your commands to suit your operating system.
{% endhint %}

## Install prerequisites

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Update the Local Package" %}

```bash
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt upgrade -y
```

{% endtab %}

{% tab title="Install Toolchain" %}

```bash
sudo apt-get install make build-essential gcc git jq chrony -y
```

{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## Install Go Lang

Follow the instructions [here](https://golang.org/doc/install) to install Go. Please install Go v1.20 or later.

For an Ubuntu LTS, you can probably use:

```bash
wget https://golang.org/dl/go1.20.linux-amd64.tar.gz
sudo rm -rf /usr/local/go && tar -C /usr/local -xzf go1.20.linux-amd64.tar.gz
```

Unless you want to configure in a non-standard way, then set these in the `.profile` in the user's home (i.e. `~/`) folder.

```bash
export GOROOT=/usr/local/go
export GOPATH=$HOME/go
export GO111MODULE=on
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/go/bin:$HOME/go/bin
```

After updating your `~/.profile` you will need to source it:

```bash
source ~/.profile
```

### Build Migaloo from source <a href="#build-migaloo-from-source" id="build-migaloo-from-source"></a>

```bash
git clone git@github.com:White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-chain.git
cd migaloo-chain
git fetch
git checkout <version-tag>
```

Migaloo's current Mainnet tag can be found here: <https://github.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-chain/releases>

### Once you're on the correct tag, you can build:

```bash
# in migaloo-chain directory
# Creating Vesting accounts on demand
## Overview <a href="#overview" id="overview"></a>
Migaloo 1 features a chain-level vesting account system, commonly used for team and other vesting accounts. However, there is a need for a vesting system tailored to on-chain grant recipients. These recipients cannot be included as normal vesting accounts, as these must be provided either at genesis or during a chain upgrade, which is not feasible for paying out grantees. Instead, we deploy a CosmWasm implementation of vesting with additional features to the spec.
In addition to the ability to create Delayed, Continuous, and Periodic vesting account structures, the admin has the power to claw back these vestings. This option is provided in case community consensus determines that a grantee should have their further vesting grant clawed back. In the event of a clawback, all tokens vested up to the moment the clawback is executed are still available for the grantee to claim, but no further amounts will be provided.
## Deployments and associated information <a href="#deployments-and-associated-information" id="deployments-and-associated-information"></a>
| Label                            | Code ID | Admin                                          | Deployment                                                                                  |
| -------------------------------- | ------- | ---------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| MigalooNativeClawbackableVesting | 21      | migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e | migalood tx wasm execute migaloo15l9a6jpc86dkh366vpqn588pjuhvh0k87kwgmsqp2hsp349w0hvqguj5aw |
## Usage <a href="#usage" id="usage"></a>
### Running from CLI <a href="#running-from-cli" id="running-from-cli"></a>
```bash
migalood tx wasm execute migaloo15l9a6jpc86dkh366vpqn588pjuhvh0k87kwgmsqp2hsp349w0hvqguj5aw '{"register_vesting_accounts":{"vesting_accounts":[{"address":"migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e","schedules":[{"start_point":{"time":1683727249,"amount":"0"},"end_point":{"time":1683734436,"amount":"1000000"}}],"clawbackable":true}]}}' --amount 1000000uwhale
```
The above command demonstrates the creation of a vesting account for an address that will vest 1 WHALE over 2 hours. All times are in epoch timestamp, and all amounts are U128, which means they must be represented as strings in JSON.
## Examples <a href="#examples" id="examples"></a>
The following are a few pre-made examples with info describing each one in details. The purpose is to have a quick reference for the creation of future vesting props
### General Case a linear vesting over 1 year <a href="#general-case-a-linear-vesting-over-1-year" id="general-case-a-linear-vesting-over-1-year"></a>
This case is the most basic and common example we may find when using a vesting contract. The deployed vesting contract supports this both with or without clawbackableness enabling the contract to be used for non-returnable vests such as funding and token agreements.
The below example shows a vesting account for 1 token that will vest linearly over 1 year. Note clawbackable can be excluded but we explicity set it to false for readability in Governance props
```json
{
  "register_vesting_accounts": {
    "vesting_accounts": [
      {
        "address": "migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e",
        "schedules": [
          {
            "start_point": {
              "time": 1683727249,
              "amount": "0"
            },
            "end_point": {
              "time": 1740503392,
              "amount": "1000000"
            }
          }],
        "clawbackable": false
      }]
  }
}
```
### How to instantiate a new vesting account <a href="#how-to-instantiate-a-new-vesting-account" id="how-to-instantiate-a-new-vesting-account"></a>
To instantiate a new vesting account, follow these steps:
1. Prepare a JSON object containing the vesting account information. The object should include the following properties:
   * `address`: The address of the grant recipient.
   * `schedules`: An array of vesting schedules, a schedule is a series of SchedulePoints each with a `start_point` and `end_point`. Both points should have `time` (epoch timestamp) and `amount` (U128) properties.
   * `clawbackable`: A boolean value indicating whether the vesting is clawbackable.
#### **Example JSON object:**
```json
{
  "register_vesting_accounts": {
    "vesting_accounts": [
      {
        "address": "migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e",
        "schedules": [
          {
            "start_point": {
              "time": 1683727249,
              "amount": "0"
            },
            "end_point": {
              "time": 168373
            }
          }]
      }]
  }
}
```
## Vesting account with an amount upfront <a href="#vesting-account-with-an-amount-upfront" id="vesting-account-with-an-amount-upfront"></a>
To create a vesting account with an amount upfront, add a `start_point` to the first schedule point with a non-zero amount. The `start_point` should have a `time` property that is equal to or less than the current time, and an `amount` property that starts at zero. The `end_point` should have a `time` property that is equal to the current time or very close to it such that when deployed this first schedule will be immediately available, and an `amount` property that is equal to the total amount to be vested 'upfront'.
The remainder of the vesting schedule will be like other examples. In this case the vesting account we create has two schedules. One which is the upfront amount and the second which will be the remainder of the vesting schedule less any upfront. Many more changes and variations can be done than just two but this is the common example.
When creating a vesting account for 5m tokens with 10% upfront we will have 2 'schedules' in the schedules array. The first will be the upfront amount of 500k tokens and the second will be the remainder of the vesting schedule of 4.5m tokens.
> Note: In this example, we are using a token with 6 decimal places, assuming WHALE token and that we are using uwhale. Any tokens can be used but the decimals must be accounted for. Inspecting this vesting account you will notice in the second schedule the start\_point has an amount of 0.5 and the end\_point has an amount of 4.5m in udenom. This is because the first schedule has already vested 500k tokens and the second schedule will at most vest another 4.5m tokens, bringing the total to 5m tokens.
#### Example JSON object:
For the upfront; any two dates in the past will work, such as `1692704960` and `1692704961`. The `amount` should be zero for the `start_point` and the total amount to be vested 'upfront' for the `end_point`.
For the remainder this can be vested in one schedule or multiple schedules. In this example we will use one schedule which runs for 18 months.
```json
{
  "register_vesting_accounts": {
    "vesting_accounts": [
      {
        "address": "migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e",
        "schedules": [
          {
            "start_point": {
              "time": 1692704960,
              "amount": "0"
            },
            "end_point": {
              "time": 1692704961,
              "amount": "500000000000"
            }
          },
          {
            "start_point": {
              "time": 1692704961,
              "amount": "500000000000"
            },
            "end_point": {
              "time": 1740503392,
              "amount": "4500000000000"
            }
          }
        ]
      }]
  }
}
```
## Vesting account with a Cliff <a href="#vesting-account-with-a-cliff" id="vesting-account-with-a-cliff"></a>
A cliff is a period of time before which no tokens are vested. To create a vesting account with a cliff, add a `start_point` to the first schedule point with a non-zero amount. The `start_point` should have a `time` property that is equal to the cliff time, and an `amount` property that is equal to zero. The start\_point should be in the future, until this point is hit. Nothing is accrued. After which it vests linearly until the end\_point is hit.
Example JSON object:
Assuming 1683727249 is a time in the future
```json
{
  "register_vesting_accounts": {
    "vesting_accounts": [
      {
        "address": "migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e",
        "schedules": [
          {
            "start_point": {
              "time": 1683727249,
              "amount": "0"
            },
            "end_point": {
              "time": 1683734436,
              "amount": "1000000"
            }
          }]
      }]
  }
}
```
### Claiming from Grants/Vesting Accounts
If a vesting account has been created for you or your team for the purposes of a grant or otherwise you will need to claim the tokens. This is done by calling the `claim` function on the vesting contract. This is a major difference to a native Cosmos-SDK vesting account in that the tokens do not just end up in the wallet but also there are permissions around the claim such as the ability to clawback the tokens.
To claim the tokens you will need to know the vesting contract address and the recipient address. The recipient address is the address that the vesting account was created for.
## Query the amount of claimable token <a href="#query-the-amount-of-claimable-token" id="query-the-amount-of-claimable-token"></a>
```bash
migalood query wasm contract-state smart migaloo15l9a6jpc86dkh366vpqn588pjuhvh0k87kwgmsqp2hsp349w0hvqguj5aw '{ "available_amount": { "address": "migaloo179mrmjfyqj5zcp8t90tnccjds4rnm3tk0jul4e"}}' --node https://...
```
## Claiming from CLI <a href="#claiming-from-cli" id="claiming-from-cli"></a>
This example is for claiming 1000000uwhale. You still need to change the `--node` flag with a migaloo-rpc node URL
```bash

migalood tx wasm execute migaloo15l9a6jpc86dkh366vpqn588pjuhvh0k87kwgmsqp2hsp349w0hv
```
# Setting up Cosmovisor
### What is Cosmovisor?
Cosmovisor is a small process manager for Cosmos SDK application binaries that monitors the governance module for incoming chain upgrade proposals. If it sees a proposal that gets approved, Cosmovisor can automatically download the new binary, stop the current binary, switch from the old binary to the new one, and finally restart the node with the new binary.
## Setting up Cosmovisor <a href="#setting-up-cosmovisor" id="setting-up-cosmovisor"></a>
Setting up Cosmovisor is relatively straightforward. However, it does expect certain environment variables and folder structure to be set.
Cosmovisor allows you to download binaries ahead of time for chain upgrades, meaning that you can do zero (or close to zero) downtime chain upgrades. It's also useful if your local timezone means that a chain upgrade will fall at a bad time. Rather than having to do stressful ops tasks late at night, it's always better if you can automate them away, and that's what Cosmovisor tries to do.
### First, go and get Cosmovisor (**recommended approach**):
```bash
go get cosmossdk.io/tools/cosmovisor

# or, with go >= 1.15 you can do. This is the most common:
go install cosmossdk.io/tools/cosmovisor@latest

# If required you can target a specific version:
go install cosmossdk.io/tools/cosmovisor@v1.4.0
```
**Your installation can be confirmed with:**
```bash
which cosmovisor
```
**This will return something like:**
```bash
/home/<your-user>/go/bin/cosmovisor
```
Building from source allows you to target a specific version of Cosmovisor, in case you do not want to run 1.4.0.
You can also build from source; cosmovisor is in the main `cosmos-sdk` repo on Github, so you can use Git tags to target a specific version. This example uses a tag, `v0.42.7` that refers to the Cosmos SDK, as Cosmovisor-specific tags did not exist before August 2021. The first of these was `cosmovisor/v0.1.0`, and the second is the current release, `cosmovisor/v1.0.0`.
```bash
git clone https://github.com/cosmos/cosmos-sdk
cd cosmos-sdk
git checkout v0.42.7
make cosmovisor
cp cosmovisor/cosmovisor $GOPATH/bin/cosmovisor
cd $HOME
```
### Add environment variables to your shell <a href="#add-environment-variables-to-your-shell" id="add-environment-variables-to-your-shell"></a>
In the `.profile` file, usually located at `~/.profile`, add:
```bash
export DAEMON_NAME=starsd
export DAEMON_HOME=$HOME/.starsd
```
**Then source your profile to have access to these variables:**
```bash
source ~/.profile
```
**You can confirm success like so:**
```bash
echo $DAEMON_NAME
```
It should return `migalood`.
## Set up folder structure <a href="#set-up-folder-structure" id="set-up-folder-structure"></a>
Cosmovisor expects a certain folder structure as shown below. You can install the Linux utility `tree` to produce a similar output to check on your own server.
```bash
.
├── current -> genesis or upgrades/<name>
├── genesis
│   └── bin
│       └── $DAEMON_NAME
└── upgrades
    └── <name>
        └── bin
            └── $DAEMON_NAME
```
Don't worry about `current` - that is simply a symlink used by Cosmovisor. The other folders will need setting up, but this is easy:
```bash
mkdir -p $DAEMON_HOME/cosmovisor/genesis/bin
mkdir -p $DAEMON_HOME/cosmovisor/upgrades
```
### Set up Genesis binary <a href="#set-up-genesis-binary" id="set-up-genesis-binary"></a>
Cosmovisor needs to know which binary to use at Genesis. We put this in `$DAEMON_HOME/cosmovisor/genesis/bin`.
**First, find the location of the binary you want to use:**
```bash
which migalood
```
**Then use the path returned to copy it to the directory Cosmovisor expects. Let's assume the previous command returned `/home/your-user/go/bin/migalood`:**
```bash
cp /home/<your-user>/go/bin/migalood $DAEMON_HOME/cosmovisor/genesis/bin
```
Once you're done, check the folder structure looks correct using a tool like `tree`.
### Set up systemd service <a href="#set-up-systemd-service" id="set-up-systemd-service"></a>
Commands sent to Cosmovisor are sent to the underlying binary. For example, `cosmovisor version` is the same as typing `migalood version`.
Nevertheless, just as we would manage `migalood` using a process manager, we would like to make sure Cosmovisor is automatically restarted if something happens, for example, an error or reboot.
**First, create the service file:**
```bash
sudo nano /etc/systemd/system/cosmovisor.service
```
Change the contents of the below to match your setup - `cosmovisor` is likely at `~/go/bin/cosmovisor` regardless of which installation path you took above, but it's worth checking.
```bash
[Unit]
Description=cosmovisor
After=network-online.target

[Service]
User=<your-user>
ExecStart=/home/<your-user>/go/bin/cosmovisor start
Restart=always
RestartSec=3
LimitNOFILE=65535
Environment="DAEMON_NAME=migalood"
Environment="DAEMON_HOME=/home/<your-user>/.migalood"
Environment="DAEMON_ALLOW_DOWNLOAD_BINARIES=false"
Environment="DAEMON_RESTART_AFTER_UPGRADE=true"
Environment="DAEMON_LOG_BUFFER_SIZE=512"

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
```
A description of what the environment variables do can be found [here](https://docs.cosmos.network/master/run-node/cosmovisor.html). Change them depending on your setup.
Note also that we set buffer size explicitly because of a [live bug in Cosmovisor](https://github.com/cosmos/cosmos-sdk/pull/8590) before version `v1.0.0`. If you are using `v1.0.0`, you may omit that line.
### Start Cosmovisor <a href="#start-cosmovisor" id="start-cosmovisor"></a>
Finally, enable the service and start it.
```bash
sudo -S systemctl daemon-reload
sudo -S systemctl enable cosmovisor
sudo systemctl start cosmovisor
```
Check it is running using:
```bash
sudo systemctl status cosmovisor
```
If you need to monitor the service after launch, you can view the logs using:
```bash
journalctl -u cosmovisor -f
```
# Sync with State-Sync
The Cosmos SDK includes a feature called State-sync which facilitates rapid connection for validators to the network. By syncing with a snapshot-enabled RPC from a trusted block height, the time required to join the network is reduced from several days to mere minutes.
However, the drawback of this approach is that the node will only have access to the most recent state stored by the state-sync RPC and not the complete transaction history. On the positive side, the database size is much smaller compared to a fully synced node, thus using state-sync can help reduce operating costs by minimising storage usage. Furthermore, when syncing with the network using State-Sync, a node can bypass the need for upgrading procedures and simply sync with the most recent binary version.
{% hint style="warning" %}
For nodes that are intended to serve data for dApps, explorers or any other RPC requiring full history, state-syncing to the network would not be appropriate.
{% endhint %}
### Mainnet state-sync
# Block Explorers
Block Explorers for Migaloo Mainnet
There are a few block explorers available for the mainnet. You can use them to check the status of your node and transactions.
* [Nodes Guru](https://migaloo.explorers.guru/)
* [Ping Pub](https://ping.pub/migaloo)
# Join the Testnet
Here is a list of Migaloo Testnets along with their current status. You will need to know the version tag for installation of the `migalood` binary. To install `migalood`, follow the instructions in the [installing migalood](/develop/cli/installing-migalood) section.
To keep up with upgrades and syncing information on the active Testnet, you can refer to the Testnet's repository, which is the definitive source of truth.
If you encounter any difficulties, don't hesitate to seek assistance on [Discord](https://discord.com/invite/tSxyyCWgYX).
| chain-id  | Version Tag        | Status | RPC                                         | API                                         |
### Minimum Hardware Requirements <a href="#minimum-hardware-requirements" id="minimum-hardware-requirements"></a>
Operating System: Linux or macOS Disk Space: At least 100GB of free space is recommended. CPU: Multi-core processor, 4+ cores recommended RAM: 8GB+ recommended Network: Good internet connectivity
{% hint style="info" %}
These specifications are the minimum recommended. As Migaloo Network is an open smart contract platform, it can at times be very demanding on hardware. Low spec validators WILL get stuck on difficult to process blocks.
{% endhint %}
{% hint style="info" %}
It is important to note that the data on testnets increases as the blockchain progresses, thus requiring an expansion of storage as the blockchain database grows over time.
{% endhint %}
### Configuration of Shell Variables <a href="#configuration-of-shell-variables" id="configuration-of-shell-variables"></a>
For this guide, we will be using shell variables. This will enable the use of the client commands verbatim. It is important to remember that shell commands are only valid for the current shell session, and if the shell session is closed, the shell variables will need to be re-defined.
If you want variables to persist for multiple sessions, then set them explicitly in your shell `.profile`, as you did for the Go environment variables.
To clear a variable binding, use `unset $VARIABLE_NAME`. Shell variables should be named with ALL CAPS.
### Choose a testnet <a href="#choose-a-testnet" id="choose-a-testnet"></a>
Set the `CHAIN_ID`:
```bash
CHAIN_ID=narwhal-2
```
### Set your moniker name <a href="#set-your-moniker-name" id="set-your-moniker-name"></a>
Choose your `<moniker-name>`, this can be any name of your choosing and will identify your validator in the explorer. Set the `MONIKER_NAME`:
```bash
MONIKER_NAME=<moniker-name>

#Example
MONIKER_NAME="Moby Dick Validator"
```
### Setting up the Node <a href="#setting-up-the-node" id="setting-up-the-node"></a>
{% hint style="info" %}
Running a node is different from running a Validator. In order to run a Validator, you must create and sync a node, and then upgrade it to a Validator.
{% endhint %}
These instructions will direct you on how to initialise your node, synchronise to the network and upgrade your node to a validator.
### **Initialize the chain** <a href="#initialize-the-chain" id="initialize-the-chain"></a>
```bash
migalood init $MONIKER_NAME --chain-id $CHAIN_ID
```
This will generate the following files in `~/.migalood/config/`
* `genesis.json`
* `node_key.json`
* `priv_validator_key.json`
{% hint style="info" %}
Note that this means if you jumped ahead and already downloaded the genesis file, this command will replace it and you will get an error when you attempt to start the chain.
{% endhint %}
### Download the Genesis file <a href="#download-the-genesis-file" id="download-the-genesis-file"></a>
```bash
curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-networks/main/narwhal-2/genesis.json > ~/.migalood/config/genesis.json
```
This will replace the genesis file created using `migalood init` command with the genesis file for the Testnet.
### **Set persistent peers** <a href="#set-persistent-peers" id="set-persistent-peers"></a>
Persistent peers will be required to tell your node where to connect to other nodes and join the network. To retrieve the peers for the chosen Testnet, visit [Polkachu's Peer page](https://polkachu.com/testnets/whitewhale/peers).
```bash
#Set the base repo URL for the testnet & retrieve peers
PEERS=bba98e78698762439b7b44890d020ca4e907b2ba@65.109.113.130:26656,02eb3672077b55c768722db59c117148b858fcd6@107.155.81.114:26656,345d080ab5f4913dae5ff25398d430a52ec75718@116.202.216.113:2000,c3f889bc93d214bbf74e0f41fad263680141a0be@136.243.88.91:3340,7b0ed0c2c62e3bedc000c133a009db477a3b4345@144.76.67.53:2550,236d988e8309dd21472c53ff575865d7558aad31@51.210.223.185:37095,4b491559cf47bc3742d271fec59edc079483ee3b@88.99.3.158:20756,ca412eeff90f68757c26100263a9eb7b43027ae3@65.109.52.178:26656,ff9608cf25564d4695c5cea3f248f81bd570ae19@159.69.194.159:26656,8e04e9183e497560248155fb4266cd02d71fcb27@38.146.3.202:20756,d3e972f5ce127e050c7f940a1ce272c76de483b6@65.144.145.234:26656,b583943b94d3e9a12fe6425684eeee1f8bf42934@142.132.209.236:20756,73700a6e427b1ac51ccec3906091d7e2d5d175b0@95.217.144.107:20756,62a9c8d2a94cd127bc19f26eaa686741b221eb67@148.251.245.158:26656,7c04ce8a7aab9ff4d4d6049fc8a4870d6ecb7c25@65.21.232.185:2000,ed5bb09be55afecc9a32844bb53102fda3b94cee@142.132.154.176:3000,317d44d53b0b67aa040962813637fee139540f34@51.81.57.80:20756,df7806813f798816c0c19151160ad544e7013039@54.174.174.229:26656,bec6c2f30b1f7621f5f83bffb317d74939240c5c@141.95.110.235:26656,ade4d8bc8cbe014af6ebdf3cb7b1e9ad36f412c0@176.9.82.221:20756

# check it worked
echo $PEERS

#Update persistent_peers setting in config.toml.
sed -i.bak -e "s/^persistent_peers *=.*/persistent_peers = \"$PEERS\"/" $HOME/.migalood/config/config.toml
```
### Set minimum gas prices <a href="#set-minimum-gas-prices" id="set-minimum-gas-prices"></a>
In `$HOME/.migalood/config/app.toml`, set gas prices:
```bash
#note testnet denom
sed -i.bak -e "s/^minimum-gas-prices *=.*/minimum-gas-prices = \"0uwhale\"/" ~/.migalood/config/app.toml
```
### **Create a local key pair** <a href="#create-a-local-key-pair" id="create-a-local-key-pair"></a>
Create a new key pair or restore a key for your validator:
```bash
# Create new keypair
migalood keys add <key-name>

# Restore existing migaloo wallet with mnemonic seed phrase.
# You will be prompted to enter mnemonic seed.
migalood keys add <key-name> --recover

# Query the keystore for your public address
migalood keys show <key-name> -a
```
Replace `<key-name>` with a key name of your choosing.
{% hint style="danger" %}
After creating a new key, the key information and seed phrase will be shown. It is essential to write this seed phrase down and keep it in a safe place. The seed phrase is the only way to restore your keys.
{% endhint %}
### **Get some testnet tokens** <a href="#get-some-testnet-tokens" id="get-some-testnet-tokens"></a>
Testnet tokens can be requested from the `#testnet-faucet` channel on [Discord](https://discord.com/channels/908044702794801233/1069611287149039718).
To request tokens type `$request <your-public-address> narwhal` in the message field and press enter.
### Setup cosmovisor <a href="#setup-cosmovisor" id="setup-cosmovisor"></a>
Follow [these](https://github.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-docs/blob/main/gitbook/validators/gitbook/validators/cosmovisor.md) instructions to setup cosmovisor and start the node.
### Syncing the node <a href="#syncing-the-node" id="syncing-the-node"></a>
After starting the `migalood` daemon, the chain will begin to sync to the network. The time to sync to the network will vary depending on your setup, but could take a very long time. To query the status of your node:
```bash
# Query via the RPC (default port: 26657)
curl http://localhost:26657/status | jq .result.sync_info.catching_up
```
If this command returns `true` then your node is still catching up. If it returns `false` then your node has caught up to the network current block and you are safe to proceed to upgrade to a validator node.
{% hint style="info" %}
Validators and sentries can rapidly join the network with state-sync. See instructions for using state-sync [here](https://github.com/White-Whale-Defi-Platform/migaloo-docs/blob/main/gitbook/validators/gitbook/validators/state_sync.md).
{% endhint %}
### Upgrade to a validator <a href="#upgrade-to-a-validator" id="upgrade-to-a-validator"></a>
To upgrade the node to a validator, you will need to submit a `create-validator` transaction:
```bash
migalood tx staking create-validator \
  --amount 9000000uwhale \
  --commission-max-change-rate "0.1" \
  --commission-max-rate "0.20" \
  --commission-rate "0.1" \
  --min-self-delegation "1" \
  --details "validators write bios too" \
  --pubkey=$(migalood tendermint show-validator) \
  --moniker $MONIKER_NAME \
  --chain-id $CHAIN_ID \
  --gas-prices 0uwhale \
  --from <key-name>
```
### Backup critical files <a href="#backup-critical-files" id="backup-critical-files"></a>
There are certain files that you need to backup to be able to restore your validator if, for some reason, it is damaged or lost in some way. Please make a secure backup of the following files located in `~/.migalood/config/`:
* `priv_validator_key.json`
* `node_key.json`
It is recommended that you encrypt the backup of these files.
